On December 1, the European Journalism Training Association held a meeting of the association's leadership for the DESTIN project participants.
The main speakers of the meeting were Aidan White, President of the Association, and Nadia Vissers, Coordinator.
The coordinators of the DESTIN project from IUEH - Alina Lavreniuk, Head of the International and Project Department and Victoriya Zolyak, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism took an active part in discussing the prospects of journalism at the European level.
Aidan White emphasized the need to overcome the main challenges of today's journalism, namely: fake news, national interests, media independence, secure information space and journalistic ethics. The participants also discussed the political influence on the way news about the war is covered by media channels in Ukraine and Europe. The President of the Association emphasized:
"Right now we need to think about the future. After all, when the war is over, people will not stop talking about the war. And we are now responsible for how the history and course of the war will be described in the international media. We are the ones who have to promote journalistic ethics, quality understanding and proper training of young journalists. When we train students of journalism, we must make sure that they clearly understand what journalistic ethics is and what its "rules of the game" are. Ethics is the basic law of every journalist during a military conflict."
